How do I check coolant level?
To check coolant levels, you don't have to open the radiator cap; check the markings on the side of the reservoir. If the coolant reaches the “full” mark, you're okay. If it doesn't, remove the radiator cap and add the coolant or a 50/50 mix of coolant and water.
What happens if the coolant is low?
When coolant is low, your engine will start to heat up. The feature will automatically shut off the engine to prevent damaging the engine. Once your engine cools down, you will be able to drive your car again.
How long can you drive with low coolant?
If your car has a low coolant you can drive for some time. It really relies on the level of coolant. If it is low but it is above the minimum, you can drive your car for a few days. But if it is below the minimum, please do not even try to run your engine.
Can I use water instead of coolant?
Water by itself can't do the job of antifreeze due to its lack of boiling and freezing point range and its inability to protect your vehicle's engine. Plus, it doesn't absorb heat as effectively. In the case of an absolute emergency, you can use water in your coolant rank.
Should coolant be at Min or Max?
Ideally the coolant level should be between the 'min' and 'max' levels. If it has gone below the minimum level, it needs to be replaced. If you find slight discolouration in the fluid inside the radiator, then it should be changed immediately.
